Cat Tien is one of the four largest national parks in Vietnam. It is a pristine area with a rich and diverse ecosystem. Plants and animal species are free to grow and develop here.
The park is home to 1,610 species of vascular plants, 94 reptiles, 37 amphibiants, 343 birds ans 97 animals. New spicies are still being discovered in the park, such as the Cat Tien bent-toed Gecko and the ruby-eyed pit viper.
The complex of wetlands constitutes a system of marshers and lakes, natural mineral sites and vegetations along the Bau Sau Crocodile Lake, Bau Chim Bird Lake, and Bau Ca Fish Lake and is a habitan for many aquatic species. Aquatic plant and animal species in this area include 125 zooplankton species, 122 benthic species and 168 fish species, acttacting flocks of numerous native and migratory birds. Cat Tien is home to many endemic birds species and to more than a third of all birds specoes in Vietnam.
Endemic and rare species, such as the orange-necked partride, Germain's peacocks phesant, Siamese fireback, woolly-necked stock, white-shouldered ibis, white-winger duck, great hornbill, wreathed hornbill, etc. along with many migratory birds like garganey, pheasant-tailed jacana, gray-headed lapwing, oriental pratincole and flocks to the area.
Cat Tien is alsohome to the largest gaur population, also known as the Indian bison, population accounting for about a quater of all individuals in Vietnam
